![]() ![]() Look at the specifications of any screen and there will be a gain figure. These darker choices are intended for use in more brightly–lit rooms.Īnother factor is screen gain. ![]() While most options will be white, you’ll also find grey and even black variants. There are other things to consider about projector screens. So, if you have a screen that is 2.6m wide and a projector with a throw ratio of 1.3 you’ll need to put the projector 3.38m away from the screen. It’s important to note that it’s image width not the diagonal. Just divide the distance between the projector and screen by the throw ratio and you’ll get the image width. You can use the unit’s throw ratio information to discern this. It’s important to make sure your projector will fill the screen from its intended position. While white might seem to be the obvious choice, some gray screens actually provide a boost to black pixels and higher contrast all around and are a good choice if you have a lot of ambient light in the room.Ī couple of other types of screens you’ll want to consider are Ambient Light Rejecting Screens and Acoustically Transparent Screens. A 4K projector screen can have up to nine times finer weave or grit than a 1080p HD projector. If you have a 1080p HD projector or a 4K projector will determine how fine your screen texture needs to be. Higher definitions of the projector require a screen material woven with a finer texture. This is known as hot spotting and can be annoying. Also watching for super bright spots on the screen. You’ll also need to look out for overall lower color contrast with a higher gain. The screen looked dull but the clarity increased as you shifted your viewing angle closer to the middle of the screen. You may have noticed this effect if you have ever walked into a room and looked at a projector screen from its side view. The optimal viewing angle of the screen decreases as the gain increases. There’s a significant trade-off here though. This can be controlled by coatings on the vinyl screen. The higher the gain, the brighter the picture. This is the amount of light that is reflected back to the audience. The elements usually considered are Gain, Texture, and Color. Screen materials need to meet certain mechanical standards. You can get a ceiling projector screen in most any size and that support a picture resolution from 1080p to 4K and beyond. It’s a more elegant and modern way to design your projection system than a cumbersome tripod setup. You can easily retract the screen when not in use and it stores neatly in its casing bolted to or inside the ceiling. One of the benefits of a ceiling projector screen is that it saves space. There are sleek, functional options for any projection setup and can be found in home theater rooms, conference rooms, schools and houses of worship. Best Ceiling Projector Screens of 2022:Ī ceiling projector screen refers to one that is either mounted on the ceiling or recessed inside (which usually requires the help of a contactor to achieve). The projectors I'm talking about above are the Xgimi Halo (700 ANSI lumens + 12500 MaH battery+ dual 5W speakers vs 1 on the Samsung), the BenQ GV30 (which can at least rotate the image upwards with auto keystoning and the Anker Mars 2 pro (similar to the Xgimi) but I didn't start my post with this because they all don't have horizontal keystone, unless I missed it. More sneaky Samsung marketing teams misleading advertising! Plus they're advertising the projector like it has 500+ lumens when it actually has only 230 ANSI lumens. There are other nicer portable projectors that are way cheaper than the Freestyle and actually have way better features, like higher ANSI lumens and even a beefy portable battery to genuinely make it really portable (Notice how in the Samsung ads they show the freestyle projecting but there's no power cable running to the projector which is very misleading. There's definitely going to be people copying the Samsung so there's that but with that portable size, doubt you're going to get much better luminance unless some manufacture picks up on that and uses it to get ahead of the Samsung Your only concern was the brightness but if you're projecting on the bedroom ceiling, hopefully that won't be an issue It has a speaker in built which means less wiring to think about if you don't care for better sound but I'm sure it has an option to connect to external speakers (will have to check the specs), has all sorts of vertical, horizontal positioning and also scaling + it can be mounted in their special lamp stand and project anywhere at any angle and it automatically adjusts itself + it's also portable so that's an added bonus Sounds like the Samsung freestyle ticks almost all the boxes for what you're looking for.
